Interactive video training

Classroom training that holds the room

Classroom training does not have to mean a static slideshow. Action Training Systems (ATS USA) has built interactive firefighting and emergency medical services courses since 1988. Each course brings broadcast quality video, built in teaching and full instructor resources into your training room. Your instructor stays in charge, and the session comes alive.

SkillsTrain supplies and supports these courses across Southern Africa. We do not deliver or accredit the training ourselves. We give your service the resources, and your instructors do what they do best.

Why services switch to ATS

Three problems ATS fixes

Classroom training goes flat

PowerPoints and talk and chalk do not hold a room. People switch off, and the lesson does not stick.

Buying titles one by one is eye wateringly expensive

Licensing individual series the old way runs into the hundreds of thousands before you have covered a full syllabus.

Instructors lose hours to prep

Building lesson plans from scratch eats the time your trainers should be spending on teaching.

ATS answers all three: engaging international video courses, a yearly streaming subscription at a fraction of the old cost, with instructor videos, PowerPoints and facilitator guides built in.

The best value option

One yearly classroom streaming subscription

The best ATS solution for a training facility is a yearly subscription to the courses of your choice, with the instructor videos, PowerPoints and facilitator guides built into the streaming option. You can change your course selection after the first year, and the whole subscription costs a fraction of what comparable video series used to cost. Phone Linda for a quote tailored to your service.

Three course libraries

Fire, EMS and industrial, each built around the real job

The ATS catalogue is organised into three libraries. License a full library, or just the courses your service needs.

Firefighters in full gear at a fire appliance
~145 course titles

Fire

Interactive firefighter training built to current NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) standards: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT (hazardous materials), driver and operator, emergency operations, and officer development. The newest addition is a 12 title Fire Operation Support series released by ATS in 2025.

Paramedics assessing a patient in the field
60 course titles

EMS

Emergency Medical Services training across Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) levels, plus infection control, HAZMAT awareness and incident command. These courses carry continuing education credit.

Industrial fire brigade tackling a plant fire
30 course titles

Industrial fire brigade

For site based and workplace fire teams. Two pathways, an incipient (early stage fire) level and an exterior and structural level, both aligned to current NFPA industrial fire brigade standards.

Teach, test and track

Courses that teach, not just test

Plenty of online training shows a video, asks a question, marks you wrong and moves on. You never actually learn the part you missed.

ATS built theirs differently. When a learner answers incorrectly, the course stops, backs up and replays the information before letting them continue. It coaches the learner through the gap, then checks again. Each course runs about an hour, and every step is tracked, so a training officer can see exactly who has completed what.

Two simple ways to run it

Classroom streaming or online access codes

Most facilities take a classroom streaming subscription, so the instructor streams the course videos and resources straight into the training room. You can also issue individual online access codes for learners who need to work through the material on their own.

Either way you get the instructor videos, PowerPoints and facilitator guides, and every completion is tracked for your records. You do not need a platform of your own. There is nothing to install and no system to maintain.

Building interactive training since

Every ATS course pairs broadcast quality video with built in teaching, testing and tracking. Courses are mapped to NFPA standards, and the EMS courses align to NREMT (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) continuing education. Instructor videos, PowerPoints and facilitator guides come built in, so your trainers spend their time teaching, not preparing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best ATS solution for a training facility?

A yearly subscription to the courses of your choice, with instructor videos, PowerPoints and facilitator guides built into the streaming option. You can change your course selection after the first year. Phone Linda for a quote.

How do I deploy fire and EMS courses to make my classroom training more exciting?

Stream them in the classroom, or issue individual online access codes. You do not need a platform of your own. Your instructor leads, the sessions come alive, and every completion is tracked.

How much do fire and EMS courses cost?

SkillsTrain does not publish a fixed price list, because the South African rand price depends on learner numbers, the product selected and the exchange rate. Contact us for a tailored quote.

Do I have to run my own platform?

No. The courses are streamed to your classroom or reached through individual online access codes. There is nothing for you to host or maintain.

Are the courses accredited?

SkillsTrain is not an accredited provider and does not accredit training. Action Training Systems holds accreditation for the courses in its catalogue. Its EMS courses carry continuing education hours through CAPCE (the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education) and qualify under the NREMT continued competency programme, and its fire and industrial courses are built to align with current NFPA standards. SkillsTrain, working with ATS, supplies these courses into Southern Africa. The facilities that use them hold their own accreditation.

SkillsTrain is the exclusive Southern African distributor of Action Training Systems. We distribute and support the resources; the training is delivered by the organisations that use them.
