07 - WUI - Safety & Hazard Control
WUI Safety & Hazard Control is the seventh and closing title in Action Training Systems' Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting series, supplied in South Africa by SkillsTrain, the authorised ATS distributor. The closing wildland urban interface (WUI) title draws the series together around keeping firefighters safe: the hazards particular to interface work, from shifting wind and terrain to entrapment and the risks of working alongside structures, and the control measures that manage them.
It brings together the fire behaviour, risk, tactics and triage of the earlier modules into a final focus on safety and hazard control.
Like the rest of the ATS range, the title uses an interactive teach, test and track model: it does not only quiz a learner, it teaches, and when an answer is wrong the course stops, backs up and replays the material before letting them move on. ATS puts the average length of its interactive courses at about an hour.
Within the same seven-title Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting series, SkillsTrain also supplies Wildland & WUI Firefighting: An Introduction, WUI Wildland Fire Behavior & Forecasting, WUI Managing Risk & Firefighter Safety, WUI Tactical Resources & Equipment, WUI Firefighting Strategies & Tactics and WUI Structure Triage & Scene Priorities, so a department can source the whole pathway from one supplier.
As the authorised ATS distributor in South Africa, SkillsTrain supplies it as an interactive online video course and on USB, individually or as part of the complete series, so South African services can buy ATS content locally rather than importing it directly. Who it is for: structural firefighters completing the full Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting pathway.
