ATS HAZMAT Awareness - Online Video Series

HAZMAT Awareness is Action Training Systems' entry-level hazardous-materials training and the first of ATS's four-level HAZMAT pathway, and SkillsTrain, the authorised Action Training Systems (ATS) distributor in South Africa, supplies it locally. This is the streaming online edition.

The series is built from two titles. HAZMAT Recognition covers recognising that a hazardous-materials situation exists in the first place, the awareness-level starting point. HAZMAT Identification follows, covering how to identify specifically what hazardous material is involved once a responder knows a HAZMAT situation is present. Together they give first responders the recognise-and-identify foundation that every higher HAZMAT level builds on, before any containment, decontamination or response-level action.

It is built toward NFPA 470, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) consolidated hazardous-materials and weapons-of-mass-destruction response standard. ATS updated this Awareness content for alignment to that standard and to OSHA HAZWOPER (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response rule). All titles use ATS's teach, test and track model: the course teaches a skill on video, checks the learner as they go, and when a question is answered incorrectly it stops, backs up and replays that section before the learner moves on, so the course teaches rather than only tests.

A matching facilitator guide (a lesson plan for the instructor), a PowerPoint presentation and a question bank for the FITS quiz generator are supplied separately for classroom delivery. SkillsTrain also supplies the same content as an updated 2-title Awareness series on USB. Who it is for: fire services and site responders needing entry-level hazardous-materials recognition and identification training.
