ATS HAZMAT Response

HAZMAT Response is the most advanced level in Action Training Systems' four-level hazardous-materials pathway, and SkillsTrain, the authorised Action Training Systems (ATS) distributor in South Africa, supplies it locally. It is the 7-title series that takes a responder from defensive fundamentals through to full incident response, including terrorism and weapons-of-mass-destruction (WMD) scenarios.

The seven titles build in sequence. HAZMAT Containers and Scene Safety opens with recognising containers and keeping a scene safe. HAZMAT Response Sources and Terminology covers the reference sources and language a responder uses to identify and discuss an incident. HAZMAT Defensive Options and Objectives covers the non-entry, defensive options available and the thinking behind choosing one. HAZMAT Protection and Decontamination covers personal protection and decontamination at response level. HAZMAT Scene Control and Safety Measures covers controlling the scene and protecting responders and bystanders. HAZMAT Defensive Actions covers taking those actions. The series closes with Terrorism and WMD Awareness, a distinct category of hazardous-materials incident.

It is built toward NFPA 470, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) consolidated hazardous-materials and weapons-of-mass-destruction response standard. All titles use ATS's teach, test and track model: the course teaches a skill on video, checks the learner as they go, and when a question is answered incorrectly it stops, backs up and replays that section before the learner moves on, so the course teaches rather than only tests.

This parent entry is supplied on USB or DVD with a classroom streaming option. SkillsTrain also supplies the full 7-title series as a dedicated USB package and as an online video series. Who it is for: specialist HAZMAT teams completing the full ATS pathway.
