203 - Advanced Ventilation
Advanced Ventilation is the third title in Action Training Systems' ATS Firefighter II series, and SkillsTrain supplies it locally as the authorised South African distributor for Action Training Systems (ATS). It builds on the ventilation basics and vertical ventilation already covered in the Firefighter I series, taking a firefighter from the fundamentals of removing heat, smoke and gases from a structure into more advanced technique for the harder ventilation problems a crew meets on the fireground. Poor ventilation decisions can worsen fire behaviour or endanger interior crews, so the shift from basic to advanced technique is treated as a genuine step up in responsibility, not simply more of the same skill.
The title sits within ATS's Firefighter II range, aligned to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 firefighter qualification standard, and uses the same teach, test and track model as the rest of the series, assessing the learner as they progress and replaying any section answered incorrectly rather than letting them continue regardless. It is supplied on USB or as a classroom streaming option, either on its own or as part of the complete ten-title Firefighter II series, ahead of the Water Supply title that follows.
Who it is for: firefighters extending the ventilation skills learned in Firefighter I to the more advanced Firefighter II level, as the third of ten titles in the series. Training officers typically schedule it once a class has already shown it can execute Firefighter I ventilation tasks reliably.
