25 - Orthopedic Emergencies

Orthopedic Emergencies is the twenty-fifth title in Action Training Systems' 27-title Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) series, and SkillsTrain, the authorised ATS distributor in South Africa, supplies it locally as part of that series. It follows Head Injuries and comes directly before Soft Tissue Trauma, sitting in the closing stretch of trauma titles that round out the EMT pathway.

The title covers assessing and splinting suspected fractures and joint injuries at EMT level, the kind of musculoskeletal trauma a crew meets in falls, sports injuries and road collisions. It builds on the broader trauma assessment skills taught earlier in the series to give the technician a focused, hands on approach to stabilising an injured limb or joint before transport, reducing further damage and pain along the way.

It sits within ATS's EMT pathway, built to NREMT (the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) and NAEMSE (National Association of EMS Educators) standards, and like the rest of the series it uses ATS's teach, test and track model, testing the learner as they progress and replaying any section answered incorrectly before they can move on. SkillsTrain supplies it on USB or as a classroom streaming option, on its own or as part of the complete 27-title series, with closed captioning included throughout.

Who it is for: EMT-level ambulance crew and EMS providers working through ATS's EMT pathway who need practical splinting and joint-injury skills alongside their broader trauma training.
